Drop One Hundred Twenty-nine
Galatians 3:2 - 5
“This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by the hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?” (NASB1995).
Guilty. “People pleasing” has been so engrained in me since childhood that it is nearly impossible to escape the habit. Going to church has been an every Sunday ritual since I was about 6 years old. Being a “rule follower” was consistently rewarded in schools, churches, workplaces, and in our home growing up. When encouraged to “think positive” regarding risks, my typical response has been, “I am positive such-n-such (something negative) will be the result”. As much as I want to believe any good work done was completed in response to His grace over the years, my motives may well have been related to all that I shared above.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You. Your mercies are new every morning. You alone are worthy of all honor, glory, and praise. As we examine our motives, we invite You to search our hearts and cleanse us of any evil within. Teach us to humbly walk in Your ways and abide in Your Word. Forgive us, renew us and lead us in Your everlasting way.
In the Name of Jesus we pray,
AMEN
