Drop One Hundred Thirty

Matthew 23:1-2

“Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, ‘The scribes and the pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice’” (NASB1995).

Developing new habits can be hard – especially the good healthy choices. At least 30 days of consistently working on the good habit you want to develop is needed. Bad habits – well, they seem to develop much easier. Smoking, eating in excess, alcohol overindulgence, laziness, overworking, etc. all seem easier to “fall” into. And much like falls, they are much harder to recover from and there are scars to prove it. It is easier to change with support. A friend, mentor, counselor, or family member can all help with developing better habits. If the change is to be permanent, it needs to be more than an external behavior change. There needs to be a change in the heart. Whatever the next good thing is, it will not be enough if Jesus is not leading the way.

Heavenly Father,

You alone are Holy, Righteous and True. It is through Your forgiveness and grace that we have any hope of rescue from ourselves. May we see ourselves as we are and as You created us to be. Search our hearts and show us where we need to let You work in us. May we choose each moment of each day to bring honor and glory to You in our speech and in practice. Thank You for viewing us through the righteousness of Your Son, Our Lord, lest we die.

In the Name of Jesus we pray,

AMEN
