Drop One Hundred Nine
Proverbs 28:13
“He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper. But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion” (NASB1995).
This year my focus has been to daily request a clean heart, a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and an awareness of my sins. As a result, I wrote the following poem. It is a bit long. I hope you take the time to read it.
What is Sin?
If you don’t know your sins, how can you repent?
Pray and confess to the Holy One sent
To live a perfect life and die upon His Earth
Then rise again to purchase for all rebirth.
Father, forgive me, for taking Your throne.
It is Yours and Yours alone.
May reverence for You from me burst
And shift You back to the place of First.
Protect me from the ways of Men
Making idols of family, money, and sin.
May worship be centered only on You,
Father, forgive me for breaking commandment two.
Forgive me for words thought and said
That upon reflection fill me with dread.
The purpose of commandment three:
I must remember Your Name is Holy.
Commandment four, a time to rest
And reflect on the ways in which You have blessed.
Forgive me for times I made it carefree –
A time to focus only on me.
A commandment for children filled with strife
The only to promise a well-lived life
Honor your parents dead or alive.
Father, forgive me for breaking number five.
Commandment six says, “Do not kill” –
Forgive words and actions not meant to heal.
What is in my heart I cannot hide,
Holy Spirit, please be my guide.
Commandment seven – a sin of lust
Can lead to a broken vow of trust.
Cleanse me of thoughts in my heart or head
That may defile the marriage bed.
Good things come to those who wait
Now it is time for commandment eight.
Forgive me for taking what isn’t mine,
Whether property, credit, or precious time.
Commandment nine is not shy,
Straight forward states, “do not lie”.
Father, cleanse the lies held in my heart,
Whether fully believed or only in part.
Commandment ten points to one and two,
Keep my heart and eyes only on You.
Forgive me wanting to take away
Gifts You blessed others with today.
Jesus, thank You for the blood You shed
So, I am alive and no longer dead.
I stand before You cleansed of all sin,
As Your child loved and forgiven.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving us. You created us to bring glory and honor to yourself. You draw us to yourself and offer forgiveness, faith, love and purpose for all who choose to accept Jesus as Lord. Forgive us for failing to share Your Light with others. May we seek to do Your will this week and every week.
In the Name of Jesus we pray,
AMEN
