Isaiah 43: 18 - 19

“Do not call to mind the former things,

Or ponder things of the past.

Behold, I will do something new,

Now it will spring forth;

Will you not be aware of it?

I will even make a roadway in the wilderness,

Rivers in the desert.” (NASB1995).

Letting go. One of the hardest and healthiest things to do as we progress through this life. Sometimes things are hoarded. Other times we store thoughts and behaviors of others and ourselves in the past. Dwelling on the negative is natural; choosing to focus on Jesus and God’s promises takes intentionality. I listened to and audiobook this week that helped me to recognize the things with no immediate purpose being held “captive” in my home. While many words repeated in the book are not readily used in my vocabulary, the premise was simple: clutter is an outward demonstration of [one’s] inability to make decisions (Condo, Messie. (2023) Nobody Wants Your Sh*t, paraphrase). Knowing we really cannot take it with us, what keeps us from letting go of stuff that is no longer bringing joy but is definitely messing up our spaces? With these thoughts in mind, I restarted the process of letting go of stuff that was started when we moved 3 years ago. Clearing the clutter from our home helps to free my heart and mind to be more creative.

Father in Heaven,

Your mercies are new every morning. Thank You for loving us and encouraging us to let go of what was considered important and cling to You and Your promises going forward. Help us to see You and our need of You more clearly each day. May we be gracious, merciful and loving toward others just as You are toward us. May we choose to follow where You lead.

In the name of Jesus we pray,

AMEN
