Drop One Hundred Forty-four

1 Corinthians 9:24-26a

“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Therefore, run in such a way, as not without aim” (NASB1995).

This week I had the privilege to help a young person participate in a “Courageous Smiles Invitational Track Meet”. My recent reminder of my knees not being in the greatest shape and my face first “splat” at the end of the 2023 5k I participated in fed into my hesitancy to be the one to push the wheelchair in the 50-meter race. I did wear compression support from my toes to mid-thigh. I did wear my pants that cinched at the ankles so I would not trip over them. Although 2 others volunteered to run the race with this young person, I chose to walk/run. First, I walked. Then I shifted to a quick jog/run. Pushing a wheelchair while racing made it less cumbersome and I actually felt more supported and free to move faster than my normal 5k walk speed. We finished 4th? Out of 5. But we FINISHED. My knees did not hurt. I did not trip. And I am glad I did it.

The race we prepare for and run for Christ is not about where we place. Our goal is not what another is called to do. We are called to serve Christ in our own unique way. We are called to share the Good News with those around us. We don’t have to go overseas to a mission field. Our mission field is in our neighborhoods, our workplaces, our schools, our homes, and our communities. I pray we each finish well.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for providing for all our needs. Courage when we are fearful. Strength when we feel weak. Hope when we feel hopeless. Joy within seasons of sorrow. May we each study and be prepared to share the hope we have in You with those around us. Provide us with opportunities to share the Gospel with those that You have chosen. Please choose our leaders, family and friends to be a part of Your family.

In the Name of Jesus we pray,

AMEN
